Bergman is delicious as a willfully naughty woman; Cooper is her near equal. The script creates a perfect balance between youthful melodrama and the yearning for honest love. A solid film, with a powerful 30 ton crash to boot!

** (out of four)

The great combination of Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman can't quite save this period piece drama about a french woman (Bergman) who returns to Louisiana to avenge the death of her mother. She meets a gambler (Cooper) who is seeking revenge against gamblers who done him wrong.

The feel of the picture is nice with a French Quarter of New Orleans as its setting, but the story never grabs hold.

Beautiful leading lady, beautiful leading man, gorgeous costuming, happy ending...what more could one want on a lazy Sunday afternoon except possibly a glass of wine and bowl of popcorn to go with.

Saratoga Trunk is an amazing film. The costumes are lovely. The sets are also beautiful. Ingrid Bergman and Gary Cooper give incredible performances. The screenplay is well written and witty. Sam Wood did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed this motion picture because of the drama and romance. Saratoga Trunk is a must see.

The character development was not quite what it should have been, however the climax made up for it and this film had a splendid conclusion.

It's my dear beloved Ingrid at the peak of her career. "Saratoga Trunk" is intriging film, plot and performance wise. Ingrid Bergman is alway brilliant and once again pulled off a superb performance.
