[The settlers'] combination of strident religious conviction and obliviousness to social and political intricacies is chilling.

In their relentless effort to preserve normalcy, the Jewish settlers, comprised of seven families, ignore the political and military chaos that surrounds them, and steadfastly refuse to acknowledge the existence of their Arab neighbors. The world's gaze has come to rest upon this tiny minority positioned in the furthest of outposts. Their significance far outweighs their size and their existence is only made possible by the massive and disproportionate military presence surrounding them. They believe unwavering that they belong here, in the midst of Palestinian Self Rule Territories and amongst a people they deem invisible. Through their daily intractability and sheer force of will to exist here in Tel Rumeida they consistently overshadow and intimidate their Arab neighbors. Typically wary of media coverage, Director Ruth Walk has achieved uncommon access to the extremist and most fanatic hue in the monolith known as 'The Jewish Settlers". -- © First Run Features [More]

Reviews for The Settlers
The freer and more sophisticated approach of 'Divine Intervention' makes these traditional-minded documentaries look somewhat stodgy and old-fashioned by comparison, but both have a value as reportage that Mr. Suleiman's film does not pretend to have.
