Bumbling Chon Wang (Jackie Chan) works as an Imperial guard in the Forbidden City of China. When Princess Pei Pei (Lucy Liu) is taken hostage, Wang pursues her captors to the wild frontier land of Nevada, where he meets good-natured thief and occasional cowboy Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson). Using O'Bannon's love of money, Wang convinces him to help recover the princess, and together the two form a curious partnership -- the likes of which the West has never seen.

Although the plot is really nothing to brag about, Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson work well together. The cinematography looks great, and Jackie delivers a hilarious performance. This is an old-fashioned crowd-pleaser.

It's a clever variation on the buddy cop picture, with Jackie Chan showing both his comic chops and his martial arts skills, and Owen Wilson doing what he does best-playing a laid-back, chick-magnet California surfer dude.

Like Shanghai surprise this movie is a wild ride. It's got comedy, action, adventure & romance. The part where the settlers meet the Chinese is lol. Jackie Chan is the equivalent of Bruce Lee. His kung fu fighting skills are beyond awesome. Actress Lucy Liu her character Pei Pei seems vulnerable but you can tell she has a fire inside of her. Pei Pei can take care of herself if need be. The scenes with Chon Wang & the Indian tribe at their camp has comedic moments. Owen Wilson is the king of snarky humor. This movie got mixed reviews. From critics & movie viewers. But for what it's worth I think this movie is definitely a sleeper hit. If people gave the film a second chance they would not be disappointed.

It's a super goofy collision of the Old West and Imperial China that manages to be a total blast, provided you don't take it more seriously than it takes itself. Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson share a sharp comedic chemistry, turning a standard fish-out-of-water premise into a fun buddy adventure fueled by clever stunt choreography and breezy banter. While it definitely explores the frontier in a sanitized Disney kind of way, its sheer charm and earnest energy make it an easy watch.

Jackie Chan movies are my comfort films and Shanghai noon is a dated fun watch. Must of the jokes fall flat and the plot is predictable but Jackie Chan doing his thing is always a joy. What happens in the film you probably won’t think about afterwards but you will be able to shut off your brain for a little bit and have fun 6.4/10
