This film took me by surprise. I thought cause the film was on the shelf for so long that I wasn't gonna like the film, but I was wrong. I found the film very entertaining. I thought everyone in the cast did a great job. It was predictable but that didn't bother me. It did remind me of Bedazzled which I liked better than this film.

Baldwin assumes the responsibilities of director for this movie.
A failing writer Jabez Stone ((Alec Baldwin) sells his soul to the devil (Jennifer Love Hewitt) for fame and fortune and ultimately decides that he wants to get it back. Anthony Hopkins adds his superstar status as the wise sage who offers to get Jabez out his pact with the Devil when he realizes that it wasn't quite what he expected it to be. With a star studded cast of Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kim Cattrall and DanAykroyd, I was expecting a whole lot more.

This one had some potential, but the cast ruined it. Hopkins should be ashamed to find himself among this mob of has beens and never made its.

Two things Alec Baldwin should never ever do: 1) leave messages on his daughter's phone and 2) direct movies

I'm conflicted by this one. Anthony Hopkins is rarley seen in bad movies and Alec Baldwin and Jennifer Love Hewitt are often funny in lesser movies, however, the Shortcut to Happiness seems kindof overdone as far as plot lines go.

This unfunny , bland , badly acted comedy is just about the worst thing a good actor can do for money. Alto it is amusing at moments it features far too often used points that are supposed to run a story and set a message. Only good thing of the movie is Anthony Hopkins , who gets a sadly small role but manages to rise the movie above being the worst movie ever made.

One of the worst films I ever saw in my life. Completely uninspired and boring.

If people could take a page from Jabez's "book" and apply it to their own frame of mind, you will most definably be able to familiarize yourself with this heart-felt movie based around the famed story "The Devil and Daniel Webster" by William Dieterle.
I thought it was great - Im curious why people are so closed minded and behave like hermit crabs in the sense if its not in their little shell - they dont want to know about it. Too many people live in little boxes - which is the core of the story here as Jabez (Baldwin) thinks success (in his lifeless little box) is happiness. When he discovers that this couldn't be further from the truth Webster (Hopkins) steps in to go up against the sinister Devil (Love Hewitt - Who despite all the fat-ass keyboard hero cows opinions - I think is the sexiest she has ever been) in a battle for Jabez's soul. Kim Cattrall is the ever raunchy Assistant in Jabez's success and Dan Aykroyd is his betrayed friend with very little compassion for Jabez's selfishness.

Why on earth does this exist. I heard about this long before it came out. A remake of one of my favorite films "The Devil and Daniel Webster" with Alec Baldwin playing the 'Jabez Stone' role and Jennifer Love Hewitt playing 'Scratch'. It never came out. I figured that it had been shelved for good reason and stopped caring about it, until one night when perusing the Netflix streaming movies saw that this was available to watch. I figured what the heck this can't be all that bad. Wrong. They removed the heart of the movie, made a clever recast to make the devil a woman (i.e. "Bedazzled", I was going to write see, instead I chose i.e. I don't want anyone thinking I endorse the "Bedazzled" remake). Jabez character is no longer a farmer but the closely related hard labor career of writer. Anthony Hopkins is the Daniel Webster, a famous publisher. Bad writing, shite direction, run of the mill cinematography. The Shortcut to Happiness here, is skipping this one.
Wow, Did this Suck!

It's no wonder why this film has taken like 5 years to be released. It's awful. The story is nothing new. You would think with this kind of cast something could come from it and nothing does. It seems like Alec Baldwin has given up directing after one effort.
