After experiencing severe morning sickness, Marco makes the thoroughly modern discovery that he is pregnant. Doctors and experts convene to confirm this phenomena of paternal maternity, and Marco becomes a celebrity, modeling paternity clothes, making commercials and appearing on billboards. This hysterical and deadpan farce is one of Demy's most charming efforts. After accepting and eventually embracing their situation, Marco and Irene plan a sort of reverse shotgun wedding. The whole world is awash in male pregnancies and it seems that societal roles are set to swing, even threatening the possibility of a population explosion. Just as Marco and Irene are about to marry, they make the disillusioning discovery that Marco's pregnancy is false. As this absurdist modern morality tale closes, all that remains is Marco and Irene's love for each other and Demy's light and musical touch. [More]

Demy's usually feather-light touch deserts him with this clodhopping farce.
A heavy-handed comedy spoof featuring the novel idea of Marcello Mastroianni being pregnant...
