It was funny at times, but it has more not exactly slaptsick violence than the Peter Sellers' movies. It's not too bad, though. Benigni é um clown exagerado, expansivo, distante da sutileza de Sellers. Ele acaba sendo "demais" até para uma série que sempre abraçou o absurdo, como mostram as interpretações de Lom como Dreyfus. E aqui cometem um erro grave ao transformar Dreyfus em uma figura paterna para Gambrelli, ignorando sua obsessão por matar Clouseau — ao menos o tique no olho permanece. Pior ainda é a luta final entre a princesa e a vilã: ambas faixas‑pretas, mas com uma coreografia desastrosa. O único momento realmente inspirado é a abertura, com Bobby McFerrin e sua banda interpretando o tema da Pantera apenas com vocalizações, acompanhando uma animação mais divertida que o filme inteiro. Also, Herbert Lom, in his last film before retirement, is a reassuring presence, and it's great to have Graham Stark play Auguste Balls again. However, the overblown and not very well-thought-out action plot seems a bit loud for this kind of film, which certainly puts a damper on the proceedings, and the humour doesn't always land very well. Benigni is mostly trying something different here but none of it works (His character might just be too much of a nice guy in a series that often thrived on Sellers' pompous Clouseau). Il film si chiama "IL FIGLIO della pantera rosa", non ha nulla a che vedere effettivamente con gli originali de la pantera rosa. Chiariamo subito quindi che valutare un film del genere basandosi su quelli di Peter Sellers è da sciocchi, anche perché chiaramente è un tipo di umorismo diverso, uno stile diverso è un personaggio diverso (bada, non attore, ma personaggio, è il figlio). Il tipo di comicità usato qui si potrebbe dire che sia molto fisica, con gag che si susseguono una dietro l'altra senza sosta, ma rimane comunque una comicità pulita.
