It's not supposed to be taken seriously. It's awesome 2 gone but never forgotten comedic geniuses like John Candy & Harold Ramis are in this movie. If you ever get a chance see the extended cut of the movie on DVD or blu-ray. It comes with 18 extra minutes & 6 deleted scenes. You will definitely get the full comedic impact of the movie. Bill Murray is known for being quite a diva. But he often improvises in movies which makes it's some of the best parts of the film. Judge Reinhold, & John larroquette are also LOL in the movie. Some of the best scenes are. Any scene Where winger butts heads with the big toe Sergeant Hulka. winger & Russell stealing the Winnebago on & go on a half-assed rescue mission save their fellow army brats. When the soldiers are doing the crash course training exercise. And winger gives his satirical but patriotic speech. This movie is beyond awesome. That's the facts Jack.
