L E O Sep 3 I was able to watch the 15th Anniversary IMAX edition of this film, but my critique is about the movie itself. Great film, loved immersing myself and disassociating from the outside world during this movie. It is truly worth watching in theaters if you can find it again, but the plot is great, it's a very accurate depiction of the dance world (I have some experience) and it was a pleasure to see it depicted on the big screen. The cinematography is amazing, the acting superb! We get a phenomenal performance by Natalie Portman who's giving it her all as this incredibly anxious and emotionally fragile "White Swan" ballet dancer that transforms so convincingly into the more confident and chaotic "Black Swan" persona. The movie shows the intense scrutiny and competitive atmosphere of the ballet scene. Great cinematography during the dancing scenes. Nina's mother starts off as the warm center of moral support. But gradually, she becomes more unhinged as the layers are peeled off and we learn more about her creepy overbearing codependence on Nina. A great metaphor about all the underlying pain and torment these ballet dancers have to go through in order to give the public a beautiful show. The movie is a riveting artistic portrayal of mental health. It's very stressful, very uncomfortable, VERY good, and I never want to watch it again.
