Critic Consensus: Reese Witherspoon is charming enough, but the road to Alabama is well-traveled.

Would be an unendurable viewing experience for this ultra-provincial New Yorker if 26-year-old Reese Witherspoon were not on hand to inject her pure fantasy character, Melanie Carmichael, with a massive infusion of old-fashioned Hollywood magic.

A great date flick and a very charming, well acted movie...

Cinema Crazed

Witherspoon is not immune to the bland and processed feel to this rote romantic comedy.

...a sporadically amusing yet entirely ineffective romantic comedy that ultimately squanders an expectedly charismatic turn from star Reese Witherspoon.

Reel Film Reviews

Watching Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama is like looking at a daisy floating in a toilet: She's the best thing in it, but you wonder what she's doing there.

Audience Reviews for Sweet Home Alabama

Not kidding, I find this movie incredibly offensive.

This is one of my favourite romantic comedies and favourite Reese movie. Excellent rom com about a girl who gets engaged and then has to return to her roots to get divorced from her first husband. Reese is at her best. Good cast and plot.

Terrible romantic comedy, it was cliche, boring, and a all around terrible film that I hope I will never have to watch again.
