For a film that has such rich lore and so much potential to depict life in an unimaginable hell, this is actually quite generic, it’s all so bland and grey and moody. There is so much CGI, it doesn’t feel real. I find it so hard to concentrate on this film. Why do they all have sore throats? I think this is the first time I’ve seen this film all the way through and it’s hard to pinpoint why I find it so boring. The action is good enough. Maybe that’s it, everything else that is just so devoid of personality. It’s such a pointless film, nothing changes from start to finish, there is no message. It isn’t a total disaster, but it feels like a missed opportunity in a franchise that should’ve hit much harder. The idea of a full future-war setting with John Connor actually in the fight sounded great on paper, but the execution is strangely flat. Christian Bale tries to bring intensity as Connor, but the story doesn’t give him much to work with. Sam Worthington’s character arc is more interesting than expected, but even that ends up feeling predictable. The action looks decent at times, but it lacks the tension and creativity the earlier films had. It feels like a big-budget movie that forgot to make you care about what’s happening. Overall, it is a /10, it’s watchable, but disappointing. I expected a strong continuation of the saga and instead got something that just…exists.
