Critics Consensus

The Incredible Hulk may not be quite the smashing success that fans of Marvel's raging behemoth might hope for, but it offers more than enough big green action to make up for its occasionally puny narrative.

The climax is a bit of a yawn, but most of what precedes it is vigorous and sharp. Go to Full Review

Norton makes for a wiry, curious Bruce Banner. But you can tell from the film's tedium-inducing smackdowns that a different philosophy prevailed: the artificial Zen of video-game playing. Go to Full Review

That rings true of the entire movie. Jagged edges, cut corners, missed opportunities, yet somehow still charming and, in the end, workable. Go to Full Review

The film takes the necessary steps to balance action and drama, making each of Hulk’s battles significant for Banner and his continuing growth. Go to Full Review

The "forgotten" MCU feature is now available on Disney+, and it remains an interesting if flawed vehicle for Edward Norton that might have taken the Avengers saga in a very different direction. Go to Full Review

Lincoln L @Linkolnbio2 1h The only good hulk movie since Disney refuses to make a new one See more Ben W @Username618 9h I think this was ok? campy enough? ?? guy swallows a memory stick, ow. See more Chris S @Janomi 1d The Incredible Hulk takes a more grounded approach to Bruce Banner than most Marvel films. Edward Norton portrays Banner as an intelligent, haunted scientist whose struggle to control the Hulk gives the story genuine emotional weight. Director Louis Leterrier also delivers several exciting action sequences, especially the university battle and the final showdown with Abomination, and the visual effects have held up better than I expected. Tim Roth brings plenty of intensity to Emil Blonsky, but the character never develops into a particularly memorable villain. The biggest issue is that the film feels more interested in moving from one action scene to the next than in developing its characters. Even so, it's a faithful adaptation of Hulk's core mythology and an entertaining, if often overlooked, early entry in the MCU. See more Sabih A @RT57875922 2d They just keep messing up with the Hulk Genre. Yeah... this one just didn't work for me at all. I can see why people say it's technically part of the MCU, but it really doesn't feel like it. The tone is off, the pacing is weird, and the story never grabbed me. Even the action, which should at least be fun, feels messy and not very engaging. The characters don't do much for me either. I didn't feel attached to anyone, and the emotional beats don't land. Compared to almost every other MCU movie, this one just feels empty. It's not unwatchable, but it's definitely the weakest of the entire franchise for me. In short: A forgettable, messy MCU entry with nothing that stands out - easily my least favorite. See more E.D. J @Salty_Sass 3d The action scenes are good but otherwise not very great See more Muhammed U @RT91286855 4d I finally got around to watching The Incredible Hulk, and I actually enjoyed it more than I expected. The movie has plenty of action, but what I liked most was seeing Bruce Banner constantly trying to stay calm while dealing with the Hulk inside him. Edward Norton played the role really well, and the fight scenes were fun to watch, especially the final battle. It might not be one of Marvel's biggest movies, but I still think it's a good watch if you're into superhero films with a mix of action and emotion. See more Read all reviews
