The Time of Their Lives may stray away from the typical Abbott and Costello formula but this film still draws laughs some 75 years later. Go to Full Review

A bold Abbott & Costello venture, featuring the team in separate roles entirely, which was very inventive for its time. Go to Full Review

Ted B. @Movieaddicted 3d 3.5 stars; This is a real break from the standard Abbott and Costello high jinks. Instead of partners, stay each played separate roles. In reality, what was going on was there was a big feud between the comedy pair and they were hardly speaking to each other. Therefore, there was very little dialogue between them in the film. Instead of relying on the usual Costello slapstick to carry the movie, most of the comedy was situational. Lou was able to squeeze in some of his slapstick humor, but in a minor role. It was more to generate sympathy for his character. A&C fans consider this film one of their higher quality productions. I tend to agree. I really appreciated the way they were able to combine early American history with a supernatural fantasy story. See more Dallas H @FozzieMcFly 4d Once again, Lou Costello is up to his usual hijinks of panic-stricken chaos. This time around, he is the ghost of a Colonial-era military veteran turned tinkerer. It's funny how his characters are always prone to fail upwards in a comedic way. The movie is alright on its own. However, for an Abbot and Costello production, it seems odd to make it a supernatural ghost story, even though they have their fair share of comedy-horror movies, including crossover specials featuring the classic Universal Monsters. This one does not feature any of the iconic horror figures, though. I might watch this movie again, but after an initial viewing, I thought it was just okay. It isn't my favorite one from the comedy duo. See more Steve D @RT35616104 06/28/2023 Not their best but some fun bits. See more Ed M @RT80499164 07/05/2021 Very enjoyable movie. Different from every other Abbott and Costello movie. See more Douglas J @RT34776683 01/10/2020 Unusual for the duo. Others have recapped the plot. A bit otherworldly and well done. A fun trip, through an unusual A&C plot. Good for a rainy Saturday afternoon - lose yourself in the feeling created by the film. See more 07/12/2018 One their better comedies in which the duo is split up and Abbott plays a dual role. The Ghost Steps Out, however, was the original title of Hold that Ghost in 1941, and not the alternate title to this film See more Read all reviews
