Chris S @Janomi 5d Tommy Boy is one of those comedies that succeeds almost entirely because of its cast. Chris Farley and David Spade have fantastic chemistry, with Farley's lovable chaos playing perfectly against Spade's dry sarcasm. Their back-and-forth carries nearly every scene and makes one of the best comedy pairings of the 1990s. This is also Chris Farley at his best. His physical comedy is legendary, but the movie also gives him quieter moments that show Tommy's growth from an immature screwup into someone determined to honor his father's legacy. That sincerity gives the film more heart than you'd expect. Brian Dennehy also makes a strong impression, providing the emotional foundation that drives Tommy's journey. The corporate conspiracy is mostly an excuse to keep the story moving, and the villains never become particularly memorable. Still, the humor, heart, and unforgettable chemistry between Farley and Spade make Tommy Boy one of the most rewatchable comedies of its era.
