Consensus: Unaccompanied Minors, while featuring credible performances by its mostly young cast, is simply a rehash of other, funnier movies.

Security corrals the kids traveling without parents into a large, windowless room. Sans supervision, the area quickly descends into a sugar-fueled LORD OF THE FLIES frenzy, with food fights substituting for any real violence. Five kids attempt to escape: awkward-but-normal teen Spencer (Dyllan Christopher), Harvard-bound brain Charlie (Tyler James Williams), gentle giant Beef (Brett Kelly), rebel Donna (Quinn Shephard), and rich girl Grace (Gina Mantegna). Thwarted by the holiday-hating head of passenger relations (Lewis Black) and an unlucky underling (Wilmer Valderama), the kids try to salvage their Christmas holiday. Black (THE DAILY SHOW WITH JOHN STEWART) is perfectly cast as the acerbic villain. Though he has toned down his barbs from his normal rage-spewing routine (this is family fare, after all), he's still one of the highlights of the film. Each of the child actors has had a lot of experience for their age, and it shows here. Williams is the title character in EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, and he shines as the uptight member of the bunch. With hints of HOME ALONE and THE BREAKFAST CLUB, UNACCOMPANIED MINORS appeals to the whole family. For kids, there are plenty of giggle-inducing moments to please. Meanwhile, their parents will enjoy playing spot the celebrity with cameos by actors from KIDS IN THE HALL, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, and NBC's THE OFFICE. Director Paul Feig is best known for his sitcom work, and his former stars show up to help him here. With humor and a little heart, UNACCOMPANIED MINORS is a tasty holiday treat. [More]

Reviews for Unaccompanied Minors
Most Saturday morning cartoons are more realistic, and actually funnier.
Unaccompanied Minors may not be the worst holiday comedy ever made, but frankly I can't think of something from that genre that sinks lower than this frighteningly bad movie.
If you really must find something to distract your children from Christmas shopping and material yearning, this one gets top recommendation for happily occupying 90 minutes at the mall.
Filmmaker Paul Feig has proven his creativity directing The Office and Freaks and Geeks (which he created). With Unaccompanied Minors, he piles on one unfunny gag after another, leaving little room for character development.
A noisy, not particularly charming collection of skits and skirmishes.
There's some amusing mischief as the underage passengers outsmart the grownups, but the picture also features mean-spirited stereotypes that kill the festive mood. Talk about holiday blahs.
A lot of crotches get abused in the kiddie comedy Unaccompanied Minors. And as a viewer, I felt a lot like a crotch.
Unaccompanied Minors is a Christmas headache looking for an audience.
Why bother suffering through 90 minutes of bad company for a few moments of holiday cheer? Especially when you can still stay home alone and watch A Charlie Brown Christmas somewhere on TV.
Though [director] Feig has said he was aiming for the spirit of films by John Landis (Animal House), Unaccompanied Minors more closely resembles the lesser movies of director-producer John Hughes.
A clumsily made but disarming enough movie about the joys of getting away with everything.
Though it doesn't reek of originality, Unaccompanied Minors manages to keep familiar routines entertaining and find fresh ways to revive the laughs fossilized inside old gags.
It's a prefab slapstick-'n'-pathos stew that doesn't taste like anything.
The dialogue is truly painful. The situations are so contrived they make "SpongeBob" seem like a nature documentary. But what's more annoying about Minors, is the calculation behind it.
