Movie Info

Shirley Maclaine stars as a reclusive piano player in this made-for-television movie based on the play by Ernest Thompson. Maclaine plays Margaret Mary Elderdice, a loner-type who befriends her next-door neighbor and violinist Cara Varnum (Liza Minnelli) only so the two can play music together. Margaret's life takes a turn into new territory and expands beyond its small confines though, with the addition of her young, aspiring-actress housemaid (Jennifer Grey).more

Good cast, only okay results.

This was really quirky. What can you expect with Shirley MacLaine and Liza Minelli. then you add in Kathy Bates and Jennifer Gray (post rhinoplasty) and what a mix you get. But it was warm and sweet and not as predictable as I thought it would be. The ending surprised me - didn't see that coming. But I'm off my game lately.

It's not cinematic magic but it's a nice way to relax and wind down for a bit. It makes you see old people a little differently, as well as the homeless, the lonely and the misunderstood.
