5/10
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) Jeff Bayer I am completely fine with Pine giving us more Jack Ryan in the future. Hopefully they can find a new script or go back to one of the Tom Clancy novels for an interesting story.

5/10
Ride Along (2014) Jeff Bayer Because of his brilliant standup comedy, I find myself rooting for Hart. I hope he will have the chance to star in a film that is worthy of him. 'Ride Along' isn't that opportunity.

8/10
The Conjuring (2013) Jeff Bayer I would happily watch it again, which is something I rarely say about horror films.

9/10
Before Midnight (2013) Jeff Bayer The 'Before' trilogy is a vacation for me. I am taken away, and it is never for long enough. I genuinely feel lucky to have these movies.

8/10
Monsters University (2013) Jeff Bayer While it's nothing ground-breaking, 'Monsters University' is really, really nice once it gets past the idea of Mike and Sully being at odds.

7/10
Man of Steel (2013) Jeff Bayer While it gives you your fix, it doesn't put Superman back on top of our cinematic superheroes.

5/10
The Hangover Part III (2013) Jeff Bayer Perhaps we were wrong to complain about the repetitive nature of 'The Hangover Part II.' At least there were funny moments. This is a slow action film, with only a few amusing parts.

7/10
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) Jeff Bayer It's definitely a fun action movie, but I'm ready for these films to boldly go in their own direction, instead of hanging on to the originals.

8/10
Iron Man 3 (2013) Jeff Bayer It's the funniest superhero film, and it doesn't feel like it's pandering. That's the power of Downey, Jr. and now Shane Black.

5/10
21 and Over (2013) Jeff Bayer Better than 'Project X' and 'The Hangover Part II,' worse than 'The Hangover' and 'Superbad.' So yeah, it's average.

7/10
Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) Jeff Bayer This film has everything you want out of an epic adventure, even though you've seem almost all of it before.
Posted Mar 06, 2013Edit critic review
4/10
Snitch (2013) Jeff Bayer Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson isn't an 'ordinary man.' That's why he has a nickname and looks like a real-life superhero. That's just one problem with this film.

5/10
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) Jeff Bayer While the idea of giving fairy tale stars Hansel and Gretel the R-rated bloody adult treatment sounds like a good idea to me, it turns out it's only good in theory.

4/10
Identity Thief (2013) Jeff Bayer On paper it's a good comedic pairing, but that's it. About 45 minutes into the film, I realized I was trying to laugh, instead of the film making me laugh.

4/10
Safe Haven (2013) Jeff Bayer The whole film is mild until the end. You won't believe it, but it's also not worth believing.
Posted Feb 22, 2013Edit critic review
5/10
The Last Stand (2013) Jeff Bayer Arnold Schwarzenegger gets knocked down, and slowly gets back up again in a film that is a rental at best.
Posted Jan 22, 2013Edit critic review
8/10
Killing Them Softly (2012) Jeff Bayer The completely obvious comparison to the mobster world and our American economic system is a welcome, straight-forward surprise for storytelling.
Posted Dec 11, 2012Edit critic review
8/10
Hitchcock (2012) Jeff Bayer While this might not be what we expect from a film about The Master of Suspense, it's oddly a fun romp, with Helen Mirren eventually stealing the show.
Posted Dec 11, 2012Edit critic review
7/10
Lincoln (2012) Jeff Bayer While Spielberg captures a time, Day-Lewis captures another brilliant performance, and some of the supporting actors may capture Oscar nominations, the film didn't capture my soul the way I was hoping.

6/10
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (2012) Jeff Bayer I rolled my eyes, laughed at, and laughed with this film. I was entertained. It's a sloppy enjoyable mess, and the most fun I had watching a 'Twilight' movie.

5/10
Chasing Mavericks (2012) Jeff Bayer It's always odd walking away from an average film, realizing there are plenty of flaws, and still kind of liking it. That's the case with 'Chasing Mavericks.'

9/10
Cloud Atlas (2012) Jeff Bayer With 'Cloud Atlas' you'll play connect the dots, and potentially feel like a kid, remembering what it is like to be amazed at what you are seeing on the big screen.
Posted Dec 11, 2012Edit critic review
7/10
Wreck-It Ralph (2012) Jeff Bayer As a new father you can fully trust me when I say things like 'Wreck-It Ralph' is fun for the whole family, even though my family won't find that out for another five years.
Posted Dec 11, 2012Edit critic review
10/10
Skyfall (2012) Jeff Bayer As the saying goes, you've got to shake 22 Bond films, before the 23rd is stirred to perfection. Without a doubt, this is the best James Bond movie.

4/10
Alex Cross (2012) Jeff Bayer Are we sure this isn't a TV pilot that accidentally ended up on the big screen?
Posted Oct 25, 2012Edit critic review
5/10
Paranormal Activity 4 (2012) Jeff Bayer Unfortunately, this franchise has finally seemed to run its course. There are less quality scares, and now a story that almost doesn't matter.

9/10
Seven Psychopaths (2012) Jeff Bayer Rockwell and Walken are at their best in this violent tale. What more could you possibly want?
Posted Oct 16, 2012Edit critic review
8/10
Samsara (2011) Jeff Bayer This film captures some of the greatest images you'll see on the big screen this year.
Posted Sep 11, 2012Edit critic review
3/10
The Words (2012) Jeff Bayer The story within a story, which is kind of within another story, but really about ALL of the stories isn't something that is worth your time.
Posted Sep 11, 2012Edit critic review
7/10
Sleepwalk With Me (2012) Jeff Bayer Mike Birbiglia showcases the mindset of a comedian trying to find his voice, and the film has a surprising amount of heart.
Posted Sep 11, 2012Edit critic review
4/10
The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012) Jeff Bayer While definitely odd, I'm surprised about the lack of magic, heart-warming feelings in this film.
Posted Aug 22, 2012Edit critic review
3/10
Sparkle (2012) Jeff Bayer The drama becomes engulfed by too much 'melo' during Sister's story. You're better off listening on your own to the fantastic Motown sounds the film is based on.
Posted Aug 22, 2012Edit critic review
8/10
ParaNorman (2012) Jeff Bayer The look of the film is great, and the anti-bullying message works. This would be a fantastic introduction to scary movies for the kids.
Posted Aug 22, 2012Edit critic review
6/10
The Expendables 2 (2012) Jeff Bayer It's better than the first, mainly due to the over-the-top beginning and end. That middle hour takes a while.
Posted Aug 22, 2012Edit critic review
3/10
Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (2011) Jeff Bayer Pointless 3D, and with the way the story was told, there were no surprises. It does however feature the most horrific suicide I've watched on film.
Posted Aug 13, 2012Edit critic review
7/10
Hope Springs (2012) Jeff Bayer This is a drama (not comedy) that is probably the most honest portrayal of therapy on film. If you are old, see this movie.
Posted Aug 13, 2012Edit critic review
4/10
The Campaign (2012) Jeff Bayer Getting a few chuckles and one or two laugh out loud moments is not enough, especially when Ferrell and Galifianakis could make fun of our actual political system, instead of this truly fictitious one.

9/10
The Bourne Legacy (2012) Jeff Bayer Whether you call this a reboot, extension, evolution or a spin-off, I'm thrilled with where this franchise can go.
Posted Aug 13, 2012Edit critic review
5/10
Step Up Revolution (2012) Jeff Bayer Who knew dance could save Miami? Beyond the dancing (which is good), the story seems created for a 5th grader.
Posted Aug 05, 2012Edit critic review
7/10
The Watch (2012) Jeff Bayer The only thing the cast seemed to care about it trying to make you laugh. It worked for me, especially having a happy Vince Vaughn.
Posted Aug 05, 2012Edit critic review
6/10
Clown (2010) Jeff Bayer The degree of difficulty is very high with this uncomfortable comedy. I cringed with laughter throughout.
Posted Aug 05, 2012Edit critic review
4/10
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days (2012) Jeff Bayer Though this one is better than the first two, this is now my least favorite trilogy.
Posted Aug 05, 2012Edit critic review
7/10
Total Recall (2012) Jeff Bayer The look of the sci-fi universe, and good action sequences make up for the near pointless plot.
Posted Aug 05, 2012Edit critic review
8/10
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) Jeff Bayer The belief that one man can become a symbol for something greater will continue to drive people to this trilogy for years to come.
Posted Jul 24, 2012Edit critic review
6/10
Ted (2012) Jeff Bayer Everything about this film feels like a pretty good reworking of 'The Family Guy.' Unfortunately the last quarter of the film forgets it is a comedy.
Posted Jul 13, 2012Edit critic review
6/10
Magic Mike (2012) Jeff Bayer It's a good behind-the-scenes film that becomes a little ordinary in the end. Loved Matthew McConaughey, though I'm not convinced he knew the cameras were rolling.
Posted Jul 13, 2012Edit critic review
8/10
Savages (2012) Jeff Bayer Stone gets down and dirty with some pot and plenty of violence. I had a lot of fun, I just wish Lively's voiceover didn't exist throughout the film.
Posted Jul 13, 2012Edit critic review
3/10
To Rome With Love (2012) Jeff Bayer Everything is supposed to be a farce, but it plays out like a boring drama. This film makes 'Midnight in Paris' all the more impressive.
Posted Jul 13, 2012Edit critic review
8/10
Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) Jeff Bayer One of the best performances by a child actor, in a movie that feels wonderfully created by that child.
Posted Jul 13, 2012Edit critic review
7/10
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) Jeff Bayer While it feels a little messy, they get enough things right (like Garfield's Peter Parker).
