Idealist CIA agent Alex O'Connor is shocked when he learns that the foundation of his close-knit, affluent family is built on deception. His Russian-born mother was a spy for the KGB and met his father when tasked with recruiting the American businessman. The two fell in love and struck a deal with her superiors allowing them to marry and live in the U.S. as long as Katya remained an asset and could be called on in the future. After many quiet years, they are horrified to receive one last mission: Turn Alex into a Russian spy.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Allegiance is entertaining enough, but lacks the subtlety and tension that set apart superior spy dramas.

It's not terrible, but rather aggressively mediocre. Go to Full Review

Great New York setting, fine New York actors, smart writing, so what's wrong? Allegiance is hard to love and believe. Go to Full Review

It packs the hour with lots of chases, close calls and intrigue but doesn't bother to draw us any characters that are interesting or sympathetic. Go to Full Review

More often than not, Allegiance brings unfortunate new meaning to the concept of "sleeper agents." Go to Full Review

10/08/2019 I just watched and loved it! I got me hooked up until finish! It's a shame it was only one season See more 01/05/2016 This maybe a light version of dark and grittier shows like The Americans and Blacklist.. but that's why it's worth watching.. The setting may not be realistic by far but the drama and thrills are.The plot twists are always out of the ordinary. Far better than what I can say for those popular TV shows which use a heavy R rating to capture audiences. And although it is sad that it has only one Season with 13 episodes. It is a complete and well written story worth watching. See more 06/28/2015 ALLEGIANCE is a TV show I started watching on video on demand. The first two episodes were kinda slow but as the show picked up, I found it intriguing how this young CIA agent Alex O'Connor with an autistic personality deals with life in a family with secrets & being CIA. Granted he starts as an analyst but is brought on for a bigger mission when they find out he has special analytical skills. His mother is a retired Russian spy who converted his father for the sake of their love & later retire. When their daughter becomes of age, the mother converts their daughter when the Kremlin asks. They draw the line when they are asked to convert Alex, knowing he would never agree due to his unique difficulties. The political intrigue, the secrets, and juggling of loyalties captured my attention. The show discusses a second Cold War beginning due to sanctions by the U.S. Considering what is happening in the Ukraine now there are some connected realities in our world today that I felt this show touched ever so lightly. I felt the human element of family vs. Political loyalty interesting. The complexity that began civil wars, indeed begins in families. Brother against brother...mother against child. You consider that recruiting of this nature doesn't always begin with strangers...I liked this show and sad to see it canceled. See more 04/30/2015 The critics killed one of the best mid-season replacements. Having seen all 13 episodes, I believe this show deserves a second chance on cable. The replacement for Allegiance, the slap was laughable! See more jackie s 04/24/2015 This program which is now being shown On Demand rather than on the NBC line up is better than most of the shows on broadcast TV. It is better each week and the networks' practice of pulling shows immediately is nonsense. Why should anyone want to watch a new series when they don't know if they will get to see it through a season or not. At least NBC made it available. I look forward to each episode, and I am enjoying watching. See more 04/22/2015 I find this series to be very interesting, it works not only from the physical but the mental. I think Alex is great love him. See more Read all reviews
