There are a few episodes that have a tense spy sequence, and the cinematography, acting, and music work perfectly in concert to keep you fixed in your seat. The character interactions generally seem quite natural, and the show does a nice job of transporting the viewer to the time period. The big weakness of the show is that too many characters commit suicide. In each of those situations, it's a weak way to write the characters out of the show (assuming the actors wanted out). However, I would recommend Deutschland 83 and am looking forward to watching the next season. Yes, some of it feeds on too much stereotype, but there's genuine action and believable characters involved.
