This is big-ticket Doctor Who, done in such a beautifully delicate way that it manages both to startle and to endear. Go to Full Review

"Magician's Apprentice" is a confident hour of television... and it proves once again that Moffat is great at situating a bold new Doctor Who direction within the half-century mythology of Doctor Whos past. Go to Full Review

"The Magician's Apprentice" begins the second season for Peter Capaldi's Doctor with a swaggering production whose confidence is quite remarkable... The opening hook is one of the most impressive the series has ever produced. Go to Full Review

Seemingly keen to re-energize itself after a topsy-turvy year in 2014, Doctor Who's ninth season has upped the stakes dramatically while still maintaining much of its grounded, loveable charm. Go to Full Review

So beautifully well written, with a few familiar settings and a new one we haven't seen (Skaro of course). Go to Full Review

A 4.5 billion-year stay in hell, invasions, ghosts, a quick trip home, and death - lots of death: it's been a rough season for the Doctor, but in the end, it has made him all the better. Go to Full Review

Emi M @anxiouswholockian Jan 31 Probably the best season of Doctor Who, with "Heaven Sent" being the best episode ever imo. Its so beautifully written and the whole season clearly displays the type of relationship the Doctor and Clara have with each other. This is the reason why she is my favorite companion, with Amy and Donna following close behind. Just peak writing, Moffat finally learned how to write episodes well and make this the best season of the show. See more Fan O @RT73657206 Apr 20 This season continues last season's exploration of the Clara and the Doctor, and ends with Clara finally stepping out of the role of Companion. Hell Bent and Heaven Sent are two of my all time favorite things... ever, let alone in the show. Every episode this season, except sleep no more, is a joy to watch. Although the Girl Who Died/The Woman Who Lived was underacted and perhaps a bit underwritten. Under the Lake/Before the Flood is some of the most sci-fi the show has gotten in a while, and while the characters are a bit hit or miss, I think they do hit more then they miss. This has a lot of the same little flaws as last season, like 12's lack of care going much to far in Under the Lake with the flashcards, but I can't help but love it all the same. See more Tee T @RT18983558 09/19/2024 Brilliant Series! Especially Heaven Sent is a Must-See! See more Justin B @RT21656189 06/21/2024 This is a powerhouse season for Peter Capaldi, completely owning the character and bringing subtle shades of nuance to his already fascinating incarnation. Season 9 is utterly compelling, challenging and brave, and while not the populist show that RTD put together with Tennant and Tate, season 9 at least reaches those highs with its narrative. See more Harry B @RT27515940 05/17/2024 Season nine is a beautiful expansion to an amazing series captivating the attention of the viewer going through the story of Ashildr and the masterpiece of and perfectly written episode “Heaven Sent” it perfectly finished off The Doctor story with Clara. It was a perfectly show of the grief and pain the doctor was going through because of Clara, willing to spend billions of years just to see her again.
