Set in the 1970s, this animated raunchy comedy is inspired by the life of stand-up comic Bill Burr, who is a co-creator and executive producer of the series. Burr also voices the character of Frank Murphy, a short-tempered veteran who lives in the suburbs with his wife, Sue (Laura Dern) and their three children. Frank, who works at an airport, has a penchant for shouting and profanity-filled rants. The series celebrates all things 1970s, including the lifestyle, the music, and all sorts of other nostalgic details.

F is for Family asks us to live in that period setting and identify with the abuser instead of the abused. It's a tougher challenge, for sure, and one worth taking on. Go to Full Review

It's a neat little series with potential to be a whole lot more - and it's well worth sampling on a gray, wintry afternoon. Go to Full Review

Burr's comedy, while "un-PC," is deceptively nuanced in its worldview -- or as nuanced as his rant-based standup can be. Go to Full Review

It's maniac ranting and high energy laughs from Burr and company, including a hilarious Michael Kenneth Williams as the local vending machine clerk, Smoky. Go to Full Review

Ultimately, F is for Family wastes the talents of Bill Burr on juvenile humor and unsympathetic characters, creating an outright abysmal experience overall. Go to Full Review
Daniel Johnson Screen Rant 12/24/2015
It's somewhat crudely animated and is as vulgar and profane as any sitcom ever created; yet, at the same time, it's surprisingly heartfelt and occasionally optimistic, lending the final product a satisfying balance of dark humor and genuine affection. Go to Full Review

Jakub G @jmgawecki Jan 25 One of the greatest animated show of all times. Great character development of each personality within Murphy's family. What a fantastic experience to watch Frank's character to develop from an angry, frustrated yet loving father and husband, battling between social difficulties of his time to a person who makes peace with many unexpected surprises that life has brought to him. And the show is very funny indeed! Bill Burr’s humor shines throughout the entire season, with unfiltered jokes that simultaneously poke fun at the problematic views held back then while telling a heartfelt story about a family trying their best. It’s crude and its art may not be the best out there, but I love it. See more Hannah H @RT03614145 10/13/2024 F is for Family is an incredibly relatable show.
