Comic Aziz Ansari and writer Alan Yang are the creators of this Netflix-original comedy, which is loosely based on Ansari's real-life experiences. Ansari plays the role of Dev, a New York-based actor who is struggling to identify what he really wants, both personally and professionally. The series reveals glimpses of Dev's younger years, and explores current aspects of his life, including modern etiquette (regarding texting and social media), and being young and single in the city. Other important people in Dev's life are featured, including Dev's parents, played by Ansari's real-life mother and father, Fatima and Shoukath.

Critics Consensus

Exceptionally executed with charm, humor, and heart, Master of None is a refreshingly offbeat take on a familiar premise.

Ansari and most of the cast are naturally funny and their dynamic works, much of it supported by some great writing including that of Harris Wittels. Go to Full Review

Aziz Ansari nails modern love, modern families and cultural assimilation in a potent comedy that often camouflages its depth with Ansari's quick wit and snappy patter. Go to Full Review

Master of None wants to have a conversation about diversity, but it also wants to model what the future of TV can look like. Go to Full Review

It's pleasant and it's informative in a way, and worth watching if only to learn what's going on in the world of the young and mildly disaffected. Go to Full Review

Master of None speaks honestly, directly, bluntly, with certain dyes inevitably bitter but with a sense of humor. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Jazzmin H @jazzminbree 1d Quirky. Funny. Easyish to watch. I only say this because there are things you question. Or at least I mean there are things that you have questioned and they are questioning as well in regards to society. Highly recommend. See more BB M May 4 Season 1 of Master of None is sharp, funny, and refreshing. It explores modern life with heart and humor, from immigrant family dynamics to dating mishaps. Aziz Ansari brings warmth to Dev, and the show is strongest when it’s observing the absurdities of everyday life. It couldn’t successfully do that without the strength of its wonderful supporting characters. Occasionally, Dev calls things “racist” that don’t really warrant it, which feels unnecessary, but overall, it’s a thoughtful and entertaining season worth watching. See more elana k 06/02/2024 Not bad. Lighthearted and geniune. When social issues were brought up not as a diatribe or attack, but as a chance for conversation with the audience. When Lesbians were portrayed as people who still had straight friends (and suffered their heteronormative foibles because... friendship-) while still being (not trying -not flexing- not forcing-not bullying) the coolest person in the room. See more Philip R @PhilipRoss 12/14/2023 What a sweet lovable show, very easy to see why the critics have scored it so highly. Aziz and the cast are an enjoyable group of people, like all of us, just trying to make their way through life. It is a fun journey to following along. Heartwarming to the max. See more britton u 10/21/2022 adore this show and aziz's humor. perfect blend of pleasing visuals, awkward situations, and real-world issues. See more tom m 09/20/2022 it took me a while to warm up to it. The first 2 seasons were significantly more interesting than the last season. The final season was plodding & tedious ... and relatively uninteresting. See more Read all reviews
