National Geographic Channel's first late-night talk show stars renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and is based on his popular podcast of the same name. The TV series' hourlong episodes provide a unique opportunity, Tyson says, to show how culturally pervasive and entertaining science can be. Guests including President Jimmy Carter, director Christopher Nolan, astronaut Chris Hadfield, journalist Arianna Huffington, actor George Takei and writer Norman Lear talk about topics like space travel, extraterrestrial life, the big-bang theory, the future of Earth and the environment. By bridging the intersection between pop culture and science, Tyson hopes to inspire everyone to "keep looking up."

Tyson and his hosts seem at ease with each other, and their conversations are entertaining, but because the guests aren't interacting with them in person, there's little flow to the episodes. That's not to say that the show's topics aren't interesting. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

06/22/2015 By far, this is the smartest program on TV. It mixes information, humor, and pop culture while expanding your mind on a variety of subjects. A winner in every category! See more 06/15/2015 Wow, disappointed in this season. Some of the plots are predictable and it is a let down from a strong Season 2, especially the tear jerking season 2 finale. See more 05/31/2015 If, like me, you're a science nerd and have been following the StarTalk podcast over the years (www.startalkradio.net, or my personal favorites, search YouTube for the StarTalk LIVE episodes), this show is worth following. I tend to think that anything Neil deGrasse Tyson touches turns to gold--maybe that's just the science/astronomy nerd in me--and this show is no exception. I honestly enjoy the podcast a bit more, and the StarTalk LIVE shows even more, as they're often hilarious and uncensored, but I'm really glad to see Neil and the StarTalk format brought to cable. Now if only I didn't always have to work when this show originally airs, I'd be able to support it even more. Nevertheless, thoughtful and honest discussions about science NEED a platform in today's world of awful reality TV shows, especially given that channels like National Geographic, Discovery, TLC and Animal Planet are so thoroughly inundated--even oversaturated-- with unscientific 'personal interest' shows, like Animal Planet airing shows like "Ice Cold Gold" and shows about treehouses and bigfoot, or the History Channel playing marathons of Pawn Stars (this coming from someone that remembers when Discovery Channel and TLC used to regularly air actual science documentary-style shows). That's why having programs like StarTalk on these types of networks is important. If you're interested in science and the growing anti-intellectualism in the United States concerns you, I implore you to support this show. See more 05/26/2015 If Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson would calm down and stop dominating the conversation / topic matter at every turn, he might actually discover there are other people on the set. That he evidently, invited to be there. Neil needs a handler for this show to go on much further.
