Stef, a dedicated police officer, is in a relationship with Lena. The two have built a close-knit family with Stef's biological son, Brandon, and adopted twins, Mariana and Jesus. When Lena meets Callie -- hardened from being in and out of foster homes -- the couple welcome her into their home, thinking it is temporary. Callie's blunt commentary about the atypical family hits a nerve with the twins, who struggle with their own identities. Then the girl discovers a secret that could land Mariana in trouble. Brandon helps Callie navigate the social scene at high school, but she skips school to meet up with an old friend. Her behavior makes Stef and Lena second-guess their decision to help her.

Stef and Lena's sexuality is never shyed away from, but they are also allowed to be multi-dimensional and complex characters who are not entirely defined by their sexuality. Go to Full Review

As far as stand alone Christmas specials go, this was a pretty solid outing for the Fosters family and does a lot to push the plot forward, or at the very least give fans a small taste of what's in store for the 2nd half of the season. Go to Full Review

"Take Me Out" was another slower episode, but it is nice to relax and contemplate who the characters are and just how far they have come since we first met them before the inevitable storm of drama hits once more. Go to Full Review

[The season premiere] was a smoother, more typical episode of the series, with a more normal mix of ups, downs, secrets, and one very big surprise. Go to Full Review

Johan Q @johanquevedor 12/23/2023 I'm in love with The Fosters. Just so beautiful. See more 08/19/2015 The ambitious, family friendly and extremely relatable tv-show continues on a greater and more emotional path. To have a home and to belong somewhere is a basic human need, and the show still manages to get to me on an emotional level. It’s still therefor very relatable, and you must thank the strong characters to that. The storytelling is just as stunning, but a bit more emotional than the previous season, and it still got a lot to tell about freedom, love, LGBT, parenting, attraction, childhood, diversity and of course everyday life. That’s how great this show really is. We also get to see a lot more critical aspects with stereotypes, and the show really makes a stand with classic social norms in our society. When it comes to the characters; well they’re just as incredible and relatable, but they have developed a lot since the first season. The actors have also evolved, and it still is that one tv-show that makes me crave to love my family even more. We even see what small events can do to us, we get depressed, in love, etc. It really is a clever show! My previous problems with the first season was the classic “drama-clichés” and the somewhat vague actors, but those flaws have actually decreased and I feel that the actors really have grown into their roles. They interact much better. I can definitely say this; it’s one of the most family friendly tv-shows out there, that not just got a classic parenting plot, but a nuanced everyday life-story from adults, teenagers and kids perspective. It separates stereotypes and gender roles to mention a few, so if you haven’t seen it, go check it out! From my more critical perspective does this second season of The Fosters definitely deserve a high rating, just the plot is extraordinary ambitious that challenges for example; social norms – and to see all these everyday and small events result into disaster, or everyday happiness really is something special. But some of the actors haven’t really gotten the best out of them, and yes the somewhat annoying clichés does pull down my critic-rating considerably (not to mention that the whole show is a bit predictable from time to time). My critical rating for this second season is an 8, but since the show needs even more to impress me at a personal level do I only give it a personal rating of a 7/10. Overall rating for each episode: 7.2/10 Critical rating: 8/10 Personal rating: 7/10 See more 04/15/2015 I looove this show. I'm literally obsessed with it! See more 08/04/2014 I like it, because it shows the struggle kids going in and out foster kids go through, Also its relatable. See more 08/02/2014 shows how a real family should be always standing up for each other and loving each other no matter what and teaching us all that it is ok to to be different and family is who you choose so never give up See more 06/17/2014 i do not like this show....
