A groundbreaking documentary directed and produced by Andrew Jarecki and produced and shot by Marc Smerling (the Oscar nominees behind Capturing the Friedmans) delves into the strange history of real estate heir Robert Durst, long suspected in the still-unsolved 1982 disappearance of his wife as well as the subsequent murders of family friend Susan Berman and neighbor Morris Black. It features an extended, revealing interview with Durst himself, with whom Jarecki developed a unique relationship following the release of All Good Things, Jarecki's 2010 feature about Durst's life starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst. The Jinx results from nearly a decade of research by the filmmakers, who expose police files, key witnesses, never-before-seen footage, private prison recordings, and thousands of pages of formerly hidden documents.

It’s unheard of for a true-crime documentary to feature a criminal confessing a crime, but that’s exactly what happens in The Jinx. Go to Full Review

The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst has an unnerving quality and there is something uniquely chilling about its subject, Durst himself. Go to Full Review

It's the ultimate in reality television... But Andrew Jarecki accomplished even more... He created a new version of true-crime television, exploring an unresolved case in a series centered on interviews with the eccentric, self-destructive prime suspect. Go to Full Review

A documentary as fascinating as the subject of its study. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Durst emerges as a slippery, damaged and manipulative figure, and it is hard to tell whether his involvement is driven by a desire to control the story or to surrender to it, to lie or to confess, to be relieved of his fictions or to perpetuate them. Go to Full Review

Archie H 12/04/2024 I don't understand what other people see in this. The beginning was intriguing, but then then the pace was just slow until near the end. See more Tom S 09/15/2024 A documentary with a twist is always a special thing. This is an immersive true crime doc that leaves you wanting more with each episode and doesn't not fail to deliver on giving the viewer what they want. See more Patri 05/18/2024 El mejor true crime de la historia. See more Nawt W 10/26/2023 This true crime rabbit hole might seem a little bit petty at first and really would've been so if Robert Durst didn't "wisely" decide to narrate every excuse, every supposed motive, and every circumstantial lead this decade-spanning case has against him. The finale of the series will probably immediately prompt you to Google where this man is now, only to unfortunately find out that justice has eluded him until the end. See more Gareth v @geewah 06/24/2023 Compelling, chilling, weird. This is one of the more bizarre murder mystery doco's you will see, and it will have you hooked. The best docu-series of 2015.
