This supernatural drama, based on the series of novels by L.J. Smith, details the lives of two brothers, Damon and Stefan Salvatore, who have been living as vampires for centuries. After years of moving from from place-to-place to hide their eternal youth (and bloodthirsty condition), the brothers return to the small Virginia town, Mystic Falls, where their lives as humans ended. Damon is snarky, handsome and charming, with a propensity for evil, while Stefan tries to remain noble -- in part to atone for bad behavior in his past.

Niki L @RT95365629 Sep 18 This is the last good season before they lobotomized characters and did too much ex machina in story plots. Mikaelson antagonists are the only ones making this show exciting. Damon Salvatore was kind of exciting at first until writers gave him a lobotomy when he falls in love with Elena. Elena is an insufferable white girl that inherited her family's wealth who cries when she doesn't get her way. I couldn't care less about Elena's doppelgangers. Katherine Pierce is an insufferable narcissist with a victim complex who raped Stefan. I'm so glad that Stefan killed her in the last season. Meanwhile, Bonnie suffers from black character syndrome where she doesn't get as much spotlight and justice. Instead, she's a punching bag that her insufferable friends take advantage of without giving anything in return. Even Jeremy doesn't treat Bonnie with much respect. Stefan is a holier-than-thou vampire who could snap at any given moment to become the ripper again. He's more annoying than his friend Lexi. I couldn't care less about Stefan's doppelgangers, either. Silas reminds me of Stefan's big ego. The only characters I liked in this show were Lexi, Bonnie, Anna, Klaus, Kol, Elijah, and Aunt Jenna. Otherwise, I couldn't care less about it. It marks the most dramatic turning point with Elena’s transformation into a vampire, adding depth to her character and intensifying the love triangle with Stefan and Damon. The storyline becomes darker and more suspenseful, especially with the arrival of Silas, one of the most dangerous villains so far. The special effects are more advanced than in previous seasons, making supernatural scenes more realistic. Combined with sharper image quality and some of the best performances from the cast, Season 4 truly stands out.
