Joel B. Michaels is an award-winning Hollywood producer, who has produced several hits over the last forty years. He started his career as an actor at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Theatre in Ontario, Canada, as well as appearing on the CBC and on British television. His production career began in the 1970s on a number of features. It wasn't until 1980 that he had his first major success with the haunted house thriller "The Changeling," which starred George C. Scott. The horror-thriller went on to win major awards for Michaels, including two Genie Awards. He carried on producing films, such as the sex comedy "Losin' It," which starred a then little-known Tom Cruise. Michaels served as President of Production and Distribution at Cineplex Odeon Films from the mid-1980s until 1990. Here he launched several productions, including Stephen Frears's "The Grifters" and "Mr. and Mrs. Bridge" with Paul Newman. Throughout the 1990s he produced a number of hit Hollywood films, including the sci-fi action movie "Universal Soldier" and the space traveling adventure "Stargate." In the 2000s his greatest triumphs were in extending the Terminator franchise, with" Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," which starred the franchise's original star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Terminator: Salvation," which co-starred Christian Bale and Sam Worthington, and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," a TV series that takes place after the second film of the wildly popular franchise, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."
