A French actor who appeared in a wide range of films, Julien Guiomar played everything from an army colonel in the political thriller "Z" to an abbot in Louis Malle's "The Thief of Paris." Guiomar worked in theater before making a name for himself on TV and then later in films. He appeared several times on the theatrical anthology show "Le théâtre de la jeunesse " in the early '60s, and in his first feature film role he played a monsignor in "King of Hearts," a 1966 war film starring Alan Bates. He had a supporting role in Malle's "The Thief of Paris" in 1967 and appeared in the Costa-Gavras film "Z" in '69. In Luis Buñuel's "The Milky Way," he again played a religious figure, this time a Spanish priest. He could also play comedic roles, as he demonstrated in the Louis de Funès comedy "The Wing and the Thigh" in 1976. Another significant role was the part of a surgeon in the romantic drama "Je vous ferai aimer la vie" in '79. In one of his last roles, he played God in the offbeat comedy fantasy "Let There Be Light" in 1998.
