Served in the Army from 1969-74 and retired as a captain. Was an assistant to Indiana University coach Bobby Knight, who was Krzyzewski's coach at West Point. Named head coach at West Point in 1975. Named head coach at Duke University in 1980. Won five NCAA Division 1 Men's National Championships with Duke in 1991, 1992, 2001, 2010 and 2015. Only the third coach ever to win four or more NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Championships. He ranks behind only John Wooden (10 titles). Was an assistant on the U.S. Dream Team that won the Olympic gold medal in basketball in 1992. Named to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001. Was the head coach of the U.S. men's gold-winning national teams at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2015, became the first NCAA Division I men's basketball coach to reach 1,000 wins.
