Point Blank Reviews

A criminal seeks revenge against a partner that gave him the shaft. Some bad acting, with occasional soliloquies that seemed endless. The flashback scenes with Lee Marvin as a young guy don't work. Weak attempts at overly artistic cinematography. Weak screenplay dialogue. Neither a well thought out nor well executed movie.

Lee Marvin wants his $93K! He puts bullets in a whole lot of people over some money that no one seems to be able locate. Archie Bunker gets shot too.

Lee Marvin plays an excellent antihero in a simple story that is presented to the audience in a highly stylized manner and with a well layered plot. The use of color is excellent and this film has a notable and discernible texture that, aside from Lee Marvin, will be what I remember most about this noir suspense thriller.

Some of the stylish elements are a bit overdone, but a solid plot and terrific performances all around. Marvin must have smarted for a week after Dickenson finished her scene with him. Ouch!

No bullshit, minimalist revenge flick with almost as much substance as style. One of the best films of the late 60s.

Narratively austere, emotionally bleak, yet aesthetically ultramodern and vibrant—dare I say groovy?—with boldly jolting color choices, sound design, and jump cuts that still feel edgy and fresh fifty years later.

A minor masterpiece as director John Boorman has a unique take on a formulaic story. Lee Marvin is total bad ass.

Very poor attempt at using then-contemporary filming techniques to tell a basic story. It did not work in any context. The film is dry and boring, for the most part, and the minutes given over so that director Boorman can impress us with his cinematic uniqueness are wasted. The point of a film is to entertain and/or to educate. A movie like this is a documentary on film technique available in 1967. Of interest to historians of film only.
