Critics Consensus

It may offer energetic escapism for less demanding filmgoers, but Battleship is too loud, poorly written, and formulaic to justify its expense -- and a lot less fun than its source material.

Once the special effects take over, Berg has little room to assert his personality (or tell a story, for that matter), and the movie feels like a chore. Go to Full Review

Riggins and Landry in the Navy, Peter Berg Does Michael Bay, Transformers-esque, Not Really Battleship; any of those titles are just as fitting if not more so than Battleship. Go to Full Review

Battleship is substantially less awful than it could have been. And for me, that may have been the biggest disappointment of all. Go to Full Review

A derivative, nonsensical sci-fi project best described by comparing it to better movies. Go to Full Review

Some people will tell you that Battleship is a bad film. And they will be right. But it is still a better film than a lot of other action and effects-dominated movies out there. Especially ones based on toy franchises. Go to Full Review

Underneath the bombastic veneer of grinding metal, explosions, and destruction lies a corny and often times ridiculous story that can’t be saved by the fancy coat of CGI paint. Go to Full Review

Brian M. @iMaki 2d Wife and I rarely don’t finish movies, but this POS disaster wasn’t worth the zero dollars it cost me to stream it! When they insert a skinny black female DEI giant forehead singer (Rihanna) into an action role, it’s over! The storyline sucked! Special effects sucks! Acting sucked! Everything sucked! Always had high hopes for anything Liam Neeson is in, but even he sucked! Pretty amazing how the screwup brother dude just gets up after being thrown 30’ into a steel wall by a giant armored alien! Give me a break! AWFUL IN EVERY WAY! No wonder I never heard of it! See more Michael S. @RT20044388 2d Is it perfect no, is it cheesy yes, but one of my favorite navy movies to watch while I'm out at sea. See more Ben T @RT17849341 4d Genuine slop before that was even a thing. See more Robert H @Unclebob 5d Dialogue was annoying as heck. Could not get past the 1st 10 minutes. See more Christopher C. @RT39836430 5d I really loved Rihanna in Battleship! She is a good good soldier and I hope to see her in more movies!! See more Wendy W. @RT08831556 6d I never write reviews, but I must express my appreciation for the movie writers who had real Navy veterans in the film. They effectively resurrected a “museum” ship and used it to kick some alien butt, and to AC/DC no less! YESSS! See more Read all reviews
