Movie Info

Set over the course of a weekend tournament for chess software programmers thirty-some years ago, COMPUTER CHESS transports viewers to a nostalgic moment when the contest between technology and the human spirit seemed a little more up for grabs. We get to know the eccentric geniuses possessed of the vision to teach a metal box to defeat man, literally, at his own game, laying the groundwork for artificial intelligence as we know it and will come to know it in the future. You need no particular knowledge or affection for the game of kings to appreciate the whimsy of "Computer Chess."

It approaches its subjects not with the gleeful, madcap hilarity of a Christopher Guest mockumentary ("Best in Show," "A Mighty Wind"), but with the calculated precision of lines of code.

intriguing period piece, that obviously took a lot of effort, but the comedy starts falling dry towards the end. I want to give this a re watch since I feel that I missed a considerable chunk of the meaning behind the satire.
