Movie Info

Based on Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a dysfunctional New England family, this should have been a better play than it is. Somewhat stilted and formal, it is the story of a family who live together on fantasies and illusions--a lifestyle which is severely compromised when uninvited guests arise and disrupt the precarious balance in which they live.

Paul Scofield's performance is perfect. He is an actor who understands the nuances of a role, who can be restrained without being dull, emotional without being hammy.
