The story is set in the not so distant future when poor air quality has meant people mostly live their lives virtually from home and Artificial Intelligence has become more prevalent. Carol (Elizabeth Banks) is a dissatisfied career mother, who despite being very much in love with her husband Gary (John C. Reilly), is struggling to find real connection within her marriage and kids, where the day to day familiarity of their home is claustrophobic. Worried she could be heading towards divorce, Carol leaps at the chance to get her life back on track by signing up for DreamQuil's avant-garde A.I.-led mental wellness retreat. Gary, left to take care of their two sons, is thankfully delivered "Carol-Too", an identical mechanical clone of his wife. However things take a sinister turn for Carol upon her homecoming. Refreshed and ready to dive back into family life, her robotic and more perfect substitute doesn't leave and Carol-Too will stop at nothing until the real Carol is eliminated.

At the very least, ‘DreamQuil' will and should serve as a calling card for Prager, a filmmaker with real style and skill who just needs a better script. Go to Full Review

While simply admiring the look of “DreamQuil” is enough to sustain interest throughout the film’s abbreviated 89-minute run time, it also means that what sticks in the viewer’s memory after it’s over is a series of images and not ideas. Go to Full Review

What would you do if you were replaced by an AI version of yourself? These are questions at the core of this 'Black Mirror' premise, but Prager doesn’t add enough new to the conversation. Go to Full Review

There is a lot to chew on, but little substance by the end. In an ironic twist, the film becomes similar to the actual product it spoofs and leaves us more drowsy than engaged in the plot. Go to Full Review

Prager finds plenty of delight in use of miniatures, sharp focus, pastels, perfectly manicured patterns and game-of-telephone Hitchcock pastiche, but her approach to the film’s concerns is much more scattershot. Go to Full Review

It is no longer our surroundings that are contrived and artificial; we ourselves are the very embodiment of artifice. ‘Dreamquil’ is a modern-day version of ‘The Truman Show’. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review
