Dum Maaro Dum has a story with the right mix for a thriller, and takes off the mark unerringly, lining up all its ducks in a smart, stylish row. But the great start is belied by a stuttering momentum, making it a film of intermittent pleasures.

This entertaining if overlong Bollywood thriller is more than a little reminiscent of The Untouchables.

It's made to high technical standards with plenty of stylish transitions and impressive location work, and its message just about makes it through all the songs and stylised drama intact.

A film where the bad guys are really bad and the alleged good guy, Kamath, is actually much worse.

Technical brilliance does not compensate for a poor screenplay which lacks that much-needed edge for a suspense thriller.

For all of the tough violence and rave-party gyrations, the moralistic tone and redemptive message of Dum Maaro Dum makes it a decidedly old-fashioned potboiler.

Aug 11, 2011Rohan Sippy's earlier ventures had impressed me one way or another. Both had style and/or substance. So I was looking forward to this one (wasn't overtly desperate though). Unfortunately this one lacks both, style and substance. It'd have been okay had it entertained enough at the cost of logic.familiar s Super Reviewer

Jun 05, 2011well, this movie is not an usual Bollywood movie actually. It might have been inspired by some Hollywood movies, not sure about it, but the movie works in a way. This movie is about Goa & all the drug business that once had taken all over Goa. Enters ACP Kamath who takes a vow to clean up the mess. Talking about the performances Abhishek Bachchan plays these kind of roles very well. He was good & effective. Rana Daggubati had nothing much to do but seems like he has the potential. Prateik Babbar was good yet again after Dhobhi Ghat, Aditya Pancholi making a comeback, was okay & Bipasha had nothing much to do at all. The music of the movie is nice, specially the famous title track recreated. Also the background music was techno savvy, by the very talented Medieval Punditz. The final twist of the movie actually is a nice one, which will shock you for just a moment. The direction was fine but could have been much better, editing was not as sharp as it could have been, "thayn thayn" song could have been easily chopped, it was silly to watch a hardcore cop rapping in the middle of his duties. P.S. do not miss Deepika & her moves in the title track.Abhilash S Super Reviewer
