Every line is delivered like the actor is patting a kid on the head, and each eyebrow lift and head turn is scored to obnoxious staccato music.
The action/competition scenes have some dynamism, but the overall look of the film is unimaginative.
There are worse Yuletide kidpics, but "Elliot" has that particular by-committee quality which can suck the goodwill right out of the room.
New evidence for the case that computer animation is homogenizing children's movies, robbing them of visual interest, this harmless, charmless movie plods along well-trodden turf.
Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer is strictly for the most undiscriminating small fry.
It's the toothbrush at the bottom of your stocking: It's well-intentioned, and you might get some use out of it, but let's just pray it's not the highlight of your holiday season.
From the shaky animation and the no point script to the anemic at best humor and no actual lessons for the viewer or the protagonist, this film simply isn't worth it.
The ending won't be a surprise, but don't expect an overdose of schmaltz. Elliot has the heart of an athlete, the focus of a competitor, and the empathy of a true friend. That's what makes his movie a contender.
Nobody operating on a low budget (roughly, anything less $100 million) has yet worked out how to make human figures look like anything but plastic dummies brought to unsettling half-life.
There are many worse festive films out there than this on, but it's still not likely to satisfy young audiences eager for seasonal fun.
Joins the multitude of other utterly mediocre attempts to play off the holiday season.
This weird holiday movie is not a winner. It's middle of the pack at best. But when your craving holiday cheer and switch-your-brain-off fun, you could definitely do worse.
