Ed S @RT14464626 2h Enola Holmes 3 completely abandons the charm and lighthearted mystery of the earlier films, trading an engaging detective story for heavy-handed, modern political lectures. ​From start to finish, the movie is weighed down by clunky, over-the-top subtexts pushing anti-capitalist and anti-colonialist tropes. Instead of feeling like an authentic Victorian-era mystery, the dialogue reads like a list of contemporary talking points. ​The character writing suffers immensely. Enola isn't written as a grounded, clever detective anymore; she’s flattened into an unassailable "girl boss" archetype who easily outsmarts everyone, leaving zero room for character growth or genuine tension. To make matters worse, the villains are as lazy as they are predictable—falling back on the tired cliché of cartoonishly evil, old white British military and government officials. ​If you enjoyed the original for its fun puzzles and witty adventure, skip this one. About half way through watching the third installment of Enola Homes, I considered turning it off and taking a nap, certain I could dream up a story more interesting on my own. The mystery was convoluted and dull, the romance was also dull and was overly sentimental, and the action scenes were contrived. The previously interesting Sherlock character spent most of the film chained in a basement, Enola spent most of her time chasing people around, and Twekesbury was as insipid and boring as ever. The film tried hard to be woke, but still managed to portray the Moriarty character as an angry Black woman., and while she makes a few salient points about imperialism and white privilege, her fate is still to be beaten by white people and shipped off to prison. See more Peyton P @RT35934779 3d (SPOILERS)I thought the story was weak. it’s mostly about Enola running away from her Lordly, rich fiance’, and a bunch of other characters with small parts. Henry Cavill and Helena Bonham-Carter are largely sidelined. Moriarty is an angry black woman and part of the mystery is about ‘colonization’ by England. I’m not kidding. Jason Watkins as Brigadier Sampson, Lord Tewkesbury’s godfather, is the best actor in the entire movie. Henry Cavill is awesome, but "kidnapped" throughout the movie, so we don’t see him very much.
