05/24/2006 [font=Times New Roman][size=4]This Slovinian film, the first to be directed by a woman (Maja Weiss), is a kind of [i]Deliverance[/i] style coming of age story. Three young, female, students go on a river canoe trip down the river Kolpa. There is much mention of a serial killer and possible rapists lurking on the “Croation side” of the river but none of that really ever materializes into anything concrete. The one time they do beach on the other side of the river they actually have a nice dinner and stay at the house of an old actor and his homosexual lover.[/size][/font] [font=Times New Roman][size=4] The girls undress now and then and talk about how bad the men (boy friends and fathers) have been and flirt with lesbianism somewhat, but nothing really comes of any of it. The music score shows up now and then, but never really contributes to the movie’s flow or action. The three main actresses do well enough with their characters. Most of the others who show up in the film, including the fanatical politician/possible rapist-serial killer, are either very bored looking while reciting their lines or they pour on the “psycho drama” to heavy. The end also gets a bit psychedelic for me. It really has no resolution and leaves you hanging there wondering what really passed between the girl with the innocent smile and the three men.[/size][/font] See more Read all reviews
