Audience Reviews for Ore wa matteru ze (I Am Waiting)
the first film of kurahara, director of 'the warped ones,' couldn't be more different from that film. the convoluted story doesn't detract too much from the noir style with it's expressionist lighting and evocative music
"I Am Waiting" is one of the earliest films considered of the genre "Nikkatsu Noir" and was a huge hit for the studio upon it's release. It's part melodrama, mystery, and even B-film with noir-influenced settings and lighting. This is also the debut film for Director Koreyoshi Kurahara who went on to be one of Japan's most acclaimed New Wave artists who created unusual and fresh cinema for the youth of Japan. The film is slow in setting up it's characters and plot but once it gets underway is a rather fast paced drama with the ending involving a drawn out fight for revenge. A solid watch for film fans that appreciate Japanese cinema and something a little different and out of the ordinary.
