An effectively punishing critique of the relentless misogyny that has become a staple of every stupid Texas Chain Saw Massacre knockoff that pits sexually active women against emotionally disturbed serial killers.
Laugnier meticulously showcases sadism while seeming comparatively indifferent to matters of basic storytelling logic and suspense.
Transphobia and misogyny flow through the film as much as blood, staining what might have been a solid genre effort.
[A] taut - if somewhat corny - slasher flick ...
Some great instances of violence and a clever script prove that Pascal Laugier is more than a one-trick pony.
Ghostland manages to render conventional jump scares and plot twists original and fresh, instead of worn out.
Desperately difficult to watch.
The twist in Pascal Laugier's narrative is undermined by plot holes so large you could drive an ice cream truck through them, and the frankly silly ending only makes things worse.
It's a clever, twisty tale of two sisters, where different fantasies clash amid deep, dark trauma
[The film] is a bad story, with a whiff of "we are too smart for the viewer", which only ends up proving otherwise. [Full review in Spanish]
From more to less, a very interesting first third is followed by a terrible impasse where the narrative becomes tedious... [Full Review in Spanish]
The new film by Pascal Laugier is not the most entertaining slasher to watch, but it is just this characteristic that separates it from the rest of this type of films. [Full Review in Spanish]
