What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's undeniably visually impressive, but like its predecessor, Independence Day: Resurgence lacks enough emotional heft to support its end-of-the-world narrative stakes.

The characters and their travails rarely, if ever, connect, and as such Independence Day: Resurgence is a handsomely produced, energetically paced waste of time that arguably never should have gone into production in the first place. Go to Full Review

Why is Independence Day: Resurgence even happening? This totally uncreative cash grab copies much of the original '90s action film but with practically no fun. Go to Full Review

We're all well aware of the sequel stigma and have probably seen our fair share of films that feel like thoughtless attempts to milk a hit for all it's worth, but Independence Day: Resurgence might be one of the worst of the worst Go to Full Review

With a dreadful screenplay and nothing new when it comes to special effects ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ ends up being one of the biggest disappointments of 2016. Go to Full Review

Jeff C 12/28/2021 who wrote this script? Cause you suck at it. Terrible sequel to what was an instant classic. I'm not even going to pair this with the original. ugh I want my hours back and my memory erased. This movie should only be shown at 3:00am on reruns. See more Brent A @BrentAdams 1d Great visuals, fair acting, I enjoy it enough to own the physical movie and rewatch it yearly. See more Shaun O @RT46175168 1d Great movie, far superior to the first movie. There was no need for will smith to star in this film. I hope there is a part 3 some day. See more Samuel G @RT40782160 2d I have to say that I love Will Smith, so I'm watching Independence Day 2: Resurgence to kickoff America's 250th Birthday! See more Priya C @Sci-FiTrekkie 5d This film felt like a rehash of the first film with some slight differences. I didn’t really enjoy this at all. See more Christopher M @RT03544298 6d The movie suffers from the lack of character that made the original the instant classic that it was the dialogue was a bit forced it wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t good definitely a fun sci fi movie but it failed to live up to the legacy that the 1996 movie built will close it was fun seeing pretty much the whole og cast come back See more Read all reviews
