Damien Sachs (Sacha Baron Cohen) seemingly has it all: money, power, and a never ending stream of casual flings. As he prepares to ascend to the role of CEO at a leading advertising agency, his life is turned upside down when he wakes up in his worst nightmare: a parallel world dominated by women. Where he once ruled the boardroom, he now finds himself humbled and going head-to-head with the newly fierce and fearless Alex Fox (Rosamund Pike). With the rules of engagement changed and Alex at the top of her game, the two boldly battle it out in a playful and satirical comedy about what happens when the script is flipped.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal May 29
The destination of “Ladies First” might as well be on tracks. But Ms. Pike is terrific, as are Ms. Shaw, Mr. Dance and Mr. Baron Cohen, an agile comedian in a production that isn’t particularly taxing. Go to Full Review
Amber Dowling Globe and Mail May 26
Director Thea Sharrock presents a somewhat predictable but entirely cathartic take on what it really would look like if women ran the world, and it is fine companion viewing for Eléonore Pourriat’s French film I Am Not an Easy Man, on which it’s based. Go to Full Review

The gender politics, much like the French original, are bonkers and alarmingly retro. Go to Full Review

By merely substituting genders and pitting them head-on in a battle of the sexes, the film’s exploitative vigor both overrides any real accountability... and worryingly reduces sexual discrimination to a happy inevitability. Go to Full Review

Ladies First is not only a waste of time but also undermines the actually important conversations about gender disparity that it could have done something to advance. Go to Full Review

Every single man needs to see this film. Rosamund Pike can do no wrong and absolutely nails this role. Go to Full Review

Felicia D @RT34233034 4h the most essential watch since the beginning of womanhood just before the passions of christ :)) See more Marco L @decatur555 8h Ladies First has a premise that could have led to a sharp and uncomfortable comedy: a sexist man forced to live in a world where gender roles and power dynamics have been reversed. The problem is that the film handles that idea in a very blunt and dated way. There are a few funny moments, and Sacha Baron Cohen brings some energy to scenes that might otherwise fall completely flat, but the satire rarely feels precise. Too many jokes seem to repeat sexist clichés instead of truly exposing them, and that makes the film more awkward than clever. Compared with What Women Want, which played with a related idea in a lighter and funnier way, this feels forced, schematic and surprisingly short on laughs. It is not unwatchable, but it wastes a strong concept and a talented cast on a comedy that should have been much smarter. See more Raffaele A @RT05617210 10h Davvero carino, ben fatto, divertente e fa riflettere. See more @RT59053571 1d Great movie, underlines the absurdity of patriarchy in a witty and a comic way. See more Samantha L @RT86905307 1d For men, this might feel uncomfortable or hard to relate to, but it brutally portrays the reality of women’s lives. It gives you a great laugh, yet still feels profound. See more Kathryn B @RT32874665 1d Ladies First felt like pure lovable chaos in the best possible way. 💜 Everyone in this movie seemed one minor inconvenience away from a dramatic emotional breakdown, and honestly? That’s what made it so good. The characters were messy, hilarious, overly confident at the worst times, and somehow still incredibly lovable. The movie had this perfect balance of heart and satire — poking fun at life, relationships, and human behavior without ever feeling mean-spirited. One minute I was laughing at absolute nonsense, and the next I was oddly emotional over characters making terrible decisions with complete sincerity. It’s warm, funny, a little chaotic, and surprisingly sweet underneath all the comedy. Definitely the kind of movie you finish with a smile on your face wondering why you got so attached to these disaster humans. 🌸 See more Read all reviews
