It has a beautiful and timely message as well but isn't preachy and doesn't hit you over the head with it. There's a little something enjoyable for the whole family here. Lots of very comedic moments. James Paxton turns in an absolutely star making turn, boy can he ride too! His performance is really the glue to everything here, playing well off of Malcolm McDowell's charming "fish out of water" English school master character. I was able to thankfully catch this film in the theater at the Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles. Highly recommend this film! It feels like it's from another era of movies, an era where most would often carry a lot more gravitas. What this film lacked in budget it made up for in heaps of heart. Big fan of director, Adam Rifkin, and great to see James Paxton bring so much to the character of Dooley. It doesn't hurt that he was working opposite one of the most accomplished actors of our time. It was great seeing James display his acting depth in a large role next to a great actor. The dynamic between both characters kept the plot progressing naturally with some nice action spread out across the story making it a fun watch! See more Lisa E @geeklove13 2 days ago I had the immense pleasure of attending a screening of Last Train To Fortune at the Gardena Cinema, and getting to meet the legendary Malcolm McDowell . The film is directed by Adam Rifkin , who also directed a little film I love to demand everyone watch called The Dark Backward. I would have gone to the screening no matter what to support a filmmaker I love, but getting the opportunity to hear Adam and Malcolm talk about their history and relationship to this film was such a highlight. And the film is delightful. It's a true indie film, but what it lacks in polish and budget it makes up for in heart, humor, and character. And finding out that it's a screenplay that Adam's mother Michelle wrote more than 40 years ago to win a PBS contest (it didn't get made then because it would have cost too much money) honestly makes me love it even more. See a screening if you get the chance, and definitely catch it streaming when it comes available!
