Movie Info

Yuen Kwei directed this hard-hitting Hong Kong action film under the pseudonym "Corey Yuen." Genre veteran Hiroyuki Sanada stars in a rare heroic performance, battling a fascist religious cult with the aide of sidekick Conan Lee. The most unusual aspect of this well-done martial arts entry is its uncommonly charitable portrayal of Japanese characters, who are normally presented in such films as either villains or buffoons. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

A stunning, ground-breaking martial arts action-adventure from Corey Yuen-Kwai. With such a tradition of anti-Japanese sentiment in Chinese action film it is good to see a positive change. I like the scenes of Conan Lee and Hiroyuki Sanada in a final, absurd battle against the mystical 'God sect'. This movie just bristles with energy, and there are some great set pieces: an acrobatic fight scene performed entirely on stilts, and a blistering duel at the top of a Chinese pagoda.
