Movie Info

This slick, explosive sci-fi action saga from Russia constitutes a sequel to the 2008 megahit Inhabited Island. The premier installment unfolded in 2157, when an astronaut named Maksim crash-landed on the planet Saraksh and discovered a world plagued by a totalitarian regime that coupled medieval barbarism with state-of-the art technology. Maksim then banded together with several others and attempted to initiate a totalitarian overthrow. In this sequel, Maksim finally begins to understand the nature of the Sarakshian world and must confront and battle entirely new enemies.

Audience Reviews for Obitaemyy ostrov: Skhvatka

Fyodur Bondarchuk's conclusion to The Inhabited Island is a science fiction thriller with some features to be proud of.

This film being the second part of the Strugatsky brother's novel, makes viewing the first installment a requirement. There is a brief rundown of the story in the beginning of this picture, but it is not a substitute for the first film. It is more of a refresher.

The futuristic story contains plot holes, as there is not enough explanations for a number of elements throughout the 1 hour 40 minute picture. That isn't to say that the story is hard to follow. It just takes some effort, which can be frustrating.

There isn't anything out of the ballpark when it comes to the action. The explosive tank sequence looks good visually, while the hand to hand combat isn't too bad either.

Vasily Stepanov's cheerful disposition is a mixed bag. It brings confidence to the character; however there are times where it makes it difficult to take his character seriously. The rest of the supporting cast pass the test.

The Inhabited Island: Skirmish does bring closure to the story and while there is room for improvement, there is a bit of an epic feel to it all.
