08/14/2011 More an appreciation than an examination, and certainly front-loaded, but pretty intriguing. See more 06/26/2010 This documentary is a tasteful combination of the history of sideshows and interviews with some of the performers. There is also an appearance by an author and a photographer who cover the subject. Jason Alexander is an average narrator. Overall, this movie is informative and entertaining. See more 08/06/2009 I could easily watch this documentary 30 more times and not lose interest or fail to find it entertaining. One of my personal interests and deep-seated loves is of the sideshows of yesteryear and the people who populated them. Sideshow: Alive on the Inside explores the different kinds of acts that have been brought to sideshows for the past century and the evolution, and eventual death, of the art form. The documentary is very respectful of the performers and some very fascinating interviews with some of the once-famous attractions make this a must-see for anyone with an interest in circus or sideshow history. I have since seen some of the interviews used in this documentary elsewhere and much of the information was already known to me -- this is, after all, just a retelling of the history that is available in book form from multiple sources. Still, I recommend it whole-heartedly. See more Read all reviews
