It shortchanges itself at every turn by overextending itself.

Doctor, Powers and Mike Jones have written a sweet, simple, happy, sad, soul-stirring story that reminds you that every now and then that it's important to stop and smell the flowers.

Even with the film's bid for a suspension of racial disbelief, the racial-passing narrative in the second act of Soul is acutely bizarre.

Feb 23, 2021Simply fantastic, Soul has a great script telling an inspiring story thru a fresh premise. It's nice to see the Pixar that made "UP" and "Wall-E" has still got it! 👌 Also it's free on Disney+, unlike that Mulan nonsense.Drake T Super Reviewer

Feb 19, 2021The subject matter and themes of this film are hard to tackle, but Pixar does a good job making them palatable and packaging them in a way that anyone can enjoy. The animation is beautiful, and the screenplay is funny and heartfelt in Pixar's patented fashion. However, the story's abstract ideas lead to some glaring plot holes that are impossible to overlook. It's as if the writers realized too late that some aspects of the story don't make sense and try to paint over them with some humor, emotion, and a complex moral that they hope will distract the viewer from the glaring hole in an otherwise lovely work of art.Sanjay R Super Reviewer

Jan 17, 2021I'm starting to lose count on the amount of times it's been said but...; Pixar have done it again. This is a fabulously inventive addition to their canon and one that ranks among their finest work. It's existential conceit alone is enough to hold the interest of even the most cynical of adults while the more innocent and childlike will find enough to indulge in as well. It's balance of humour and wonder in an otherwise complex and emotionally intelligent subject matter is beautifully balanced. So much so, that the film always exudes the confidence of knowing exactly who it's playing to and exactly where it's heading. Inside Out was arguably Pixar's most emotionally intelligent film to date but while that film dealt with the complexity of human feelings, Soul endeavours to go deeper and explore a profundity that's as visually ambitious as it is deep and meaningful.Mark W Super Reviewer
