Critic Reviews for The Breath of the Gods
The director, Rolin Sturgeon... must be credited with skillful work, and the story, an adaption of a novel by Sidney McCall, gives opportunities for the acting of an excellent cast, including, especially, Tsuro Aoki, as the heroine.
Tsuri Aoki is the featured member of the cast, and finds in the role of Yuki Onda many opportunities for the display of her talent.
The scenic photographs throughout the production are unusually true, and the directing of the young Japanese men and women handling different parts shows rare skill.
Tsuru Aoki, the Japanese Bernhardt of the screen, who became so popular as leading woman with Sessue Hayakawa, has the principal role in this feature. Her acting is exquisite throughout.
The most pleasing performance after that of Miss Aoki, is given by Arthur Carewe as the prince. Others in the cast aren't called upon for any particular effort.
You will go away from this picture with a lot of lumps in your throat, and the feeling that you have seen something very worth while... It will prove that Tsuru Aoki, here seen in her first starring vehicle, is of star material.
