See more 09/05/2019 I went into this documentary thinking it would be a motivational story about men finding a constructive outlet for their problems. Boy was I incorrect. This documentary attempts to glamorize an institution that is nothing more than a place for angry men to enable the worst in each other. Despite their so called dedication, they aren't producing anything of real utility. They get strong to break records for strength, the rest of the time they're working menial jobs and landing themselves in jail because they carry the aggression that's heavily nurtured at Westside Barbell out into the public. While many activities especially in the realm of sports can be an effective outlet for people with issues, Westside Barbell actively encourages violence and extreme verbal harassment, even to the point of recalling incidents of violence and public harassment in a humorous tone. Hafþór Björnsson has been breaking strong man records while being a loving husband and father, and willing role model to many. This documentary has no business perpetuating Westside Barbell's philosophy that you need to train violently to get the best results. This attempt to paint a hive of anger and violence as a story of triumph and sentimentality is just bogus. See more 09/03/2019 You don't need to be into powerlifting to get pulled into this movie. There is a cast of characters, one more of a broken toy then the next, that have a deep abiding hatred of each other only surpassed by their hatred of themselves. Their self and mutual destructive habit happens to be piling hundreds of pounds of weight on a bar in hopes of killing each other or themselves dead under it. Drugs, abuse and industrial strength spandex clothes play vital roles under the maniacal guidance of the gym owner/suicide cult leader. A must watch. See more Read all reviews
