Movie Info

This domestic drama is from writer/director Lee Rose, creator of such respected made-for-TV films as An Unexpected Family (1996) and A Girl Thing (2001). Tamara Hope and Alison Pill star as Elizabeth and Tilden, two young sisters growing up near Atlanta, Georgia in 1981. When their eccentric mother (Elizabeth Perkins) falls in love with a stylish New Yorker named Nick (Scott Bakula), the family is uprooted to Long Island, a change that the rebellious Elizabeth deals with happily, while the wiser, quieter Tilden has a more difficult time adjusting. When her mother's sudden battle with breast cancer drastically alters the domestic situation, Tilden is forced to find a way to love and support Nick, who makes plans to become the girls' legal stepfather with a sooner-than-planned wedding. What Girls Learn (2001) is based on the novel by Karin Cook.

Audience Reviews for What Girls Learn

I watched this because Scott Bakula was in it, only I got jipped, because he has a mustache. Decent. I missed the first large portion, but all-in-all... it's one of those painfully realistic, tragic yet "hopeful" type films that has it's moments, and makes you think sometimes, but doesn't have a whole lot of epicness. It also ends with no closure to bug us all.
