Based more-than-loosely on backstage shenanigans at "Saturday Night Live," "30 Rock" centers on young Liz Lemon, currently head writer for a live sketch-comedy show in New York. Complications follow when the network's new president orders Liz to hire mentally unstable movie star Tracy Jordan to join the cast, throwing neurotic leading lady (and Liz's best friend) Jenna Maroney into a tizzy. Liz tries to juggle all the egos around her while trying to chase her own dream.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

30 Rock feels content to spin its zany wheels in a sixth season that is nevertheless punctuated with great gags and an infectious sense of fun.

Real life and sitcom schmaltz hardly ever get in the way of the laughs, but when they do it really hits home. Go to Full Review

30 Rock used to be a show that could have its cake and eat it too... But I just don't know if you can say that anymore. Go to Full Review

In general, this season has not been kind to Liz Lemon. In some of the wilder episodes, Fey has basically discarded everything that's been established about her character. Go to Full Review

It's there to be silly and make the viewer laugh out loud, not to simply be a interesting story about characters we enjoy. Go to Full Review

Stephen S. @SueMe754 Jan 4 Tina Fey is a sociopathic fraud. She uses illegal surveillance techniques to eavesdrop on and stalk individuals who she has targeted for intellectual property theft - specifically to plagiarize her victims' verbal and written conversations, which she copies rote and, then, uses in her TV series and movies. You can tell that she doesn't do this in her books, because they are unreadable. She has been doing this to me for the last ten years without my consent. She has remote access to my phone and laptops. She has been stealing from me for that entire period of time. If she disagrees with this, I encourage her to sue me. Still enough genuinely funny moments to keep it from falling off a cliff completely See more harrison r @emailaddress 09/19/2022 One of the best episodes of anything ever. Great series but this was the best season. See more 02/23/2021 I'm surprised this season is rated so low by critics, it's great! See more 10/17/2019 Most the time, it was pretty unfunny. This season tries too hard to force growth on it's characters. Still has a few classic Jack, Tracy & Kenneth lines, but it is clear that the heart of this show has slipped just beyond the reach of the actors, directors and writers. See more Read all reviews
